I saw a posting on a Facebook page for some 3/4 Australian Shepherd-1/4 Chihuahua mix puppies. The breeder posted that one puppy was special needs, that she was born blind. I scrolled through the pictures and liked a little female red merle puppy. I continued scrolling through the pics, and saw Lueka's picture. Because it was a merle to merle breeding, I knew the odds were great that she would be deaf. I contacted the breeder and said that I wanted the little mostly white female. Two weeks later, we met at a rest stop in Duluth, MN. I paid the woman for Lueka and asked if she was deaf. The woman said no, and that she thought she could hear fine. When I got home, I picked up this little 5 pound bundle of fluff and carried her inside. One of my parrots screamed bloody murder at Lueka, and she didn't react at all. I then knew that she was deaf. At her 1st puppy check up, my veterinarian did a hearing and vision exam, as well. Lueka is 100% deaf and has a 20% vision loss. She just celebrated her 1st birthday on October 3, 2016 and wants to be friends with everybody. She is the love of my life, and I can't imagine my life without my little "social butterfly".
