My family adopted Izzy from an AMAZING rescue by the name of Australian Shepherd's Furever back in December of 2015. We are approaching Izzy's 1 year gotcha day! Izzy's gotcha day is more special to me and my family than her birthday because this is the day she received her place in her forever family. My family and I never thought a little blind and deaf dog would have such an impact on our lives. Now none of us could imagine our lives without her. After my mom and I sat on the floor in the pet store playing with Izzy and talking with her foster dad we knew she had stolen our hearts for good.
It only took us one full day after meeting her for us to submit our adoption application, this was on a Sunday night and Izzy was home with us by Tuesday, 2 days before Christmas Eve. Izzy is the best early Christmas gift we have ever received! When we made the decision to adopt Izzy we had no experience with DM'S at all. We were not worried about that because we knew we would all learn as we went along. We also could tell Izzy was a very smart girl with lot's of love to share. Izzy has definitely shown us that being blind and deaf isn't really a disability for her because she is very smart and lives her life to the fullest, all we have to do is communicate with her differently. Izzy is the happiest dog and just an absolute joy to watch as she plays with her fur siblings. Izzy has successfully completed obedience school and we hope to go back for CGC and scent training. Izzy is also helping to raise awareness about Double Merles and advocating for dogs like her still looking for their furever homes.
