Ecko and Piper, two Mini- Aussies, came into our lives in a whirlwind. We were not looking but my husband and I had been contemplating adding another Aussie to our pack and had been sort of looking for months when out of nowhere we lost our female husky, Phoenix, who had been with us for over 10 years. She was our special girl because she had been born the day after we got married. I came across my little white shadows on a rescue site and filled out the form for more information. I was very surprised a week later when we were told that we had been approved to take them home. Neither one of us had prepared for puppies, but we were given the option to just take one or both. When I got to the recuse and saw both Ecko and Piper, I could not say no.
Ecko & Piper
They were amazing and exactly what my hurting family needed. Their background was a bit sad, the “breeder” who had brought them into this world had not cared or known what happens with Merle x Merle breeding. They were destined to be put down because the “breeder” could not sell them to any pet stores because they were both believed to be deaf. They were dropped off at the vet to be euthanized when someone stepped in and called the rescue who ultimately saved their lives. Ecko is deaf and has limited vision in her right eye due to a genetic defect. Piper got a better deal in the genetic raffle and can see and hear with very little issues. I was a little worried about how Ecko would adapt to our home, and how we would handle having a deaf dog. Adopting her and Piper is one of the best things I have ever done. There is no way to describe the joy these two have brought into our lives. They have managed to bring our ancient husky out of her shell and she is playing again. Our standard Aussie, Toby is now playing more and just enjoying life. They have filled all of our lives with a brightness that was missing for many months. I look forward to my life with them and enjoy waking up to little kisses every morning.
