I would like to introduce my furbaby; Miss Dove! She is a happy, deaf, double merle puppy from a litter at my parent's house. We have owned Aussies all of our lives and use them for the cows and horses on the ranch. One day we heard of a beautiful merle female in an abusive home and my family agreed she deserved a better life. That week we brought home our third Aussie Sage! She is an angel and we couldn't imagine life without her. When we adopted Sage, we were told she was fixed which was crucial due to the fact that our merle male, Bear, was in tact.
Around a month later, maybe a little longer, we noticed Sage was gaining weight. After a vet visit it was confirmed that she was in fact, pregnant! We were horrified. Our family is well informed on the Aussie breed and knew that merleXmerle breeding should never happen. We concluded that Bear and Sage had bred right around the time we were on our vacation and a friend was watching the house. A few short weeks later Sage had her puppies. Out of a litter of six, three were double merles! I decided to take Dove home with me from the moment I first saw her. I didn't care if she would be deaf or blind. I knew that this little white ball of fluff was meant to be in my life. All of Dove's litter mates went to very good homes and Dove still gets to see mom and dad on a regular basis!
While Dove is still a puppy and her training is not complete, so far she is very smart and fairly easy to train! We use many different hand signals for different tricks. So far, Dove knows Come, Sit, Down, Up, Circle, Paw, Watch Me, and Roll Over. She is also the friendliest dog I know! She loves people and other dogs. I work at a boarding kennel and she gets to come to work with me nearly every day. She loves to herd feet and her uncle Ollie the dachshund. Oh, and I can't leave out her love affair with her Kong. She will drag that thing everywhere until I put a dab of peanut butter in it right before bedtime. She is such a character! I couldn't imagine my life without my little fuzz-butt.
