I got Cody from the Pennsylvania Great Dane Rescue. He was a year and a half old, he is now 3. I don't know a whole lot about his background. He came from a hoarder, and she was given the choice to surrender the animals or face a stiff fine. He is the sweetest Great Dane I've owned, in the beginning it was a challenge, and thought , what did I get myself into ... He was not trained. My work was cut out for me.
Cody was born with no eyes, and is deaf. So I started with spraying a tee shirt with my body spray and put it on him, then started with touch training. My 86 year old mother lives with me, and when I would leave for work he would panic, chew on the door knobs, cry, pant, slobber and pace. My mother would call me and tell me he is on the dining room table, or standing on a chair like a goat. I would have to leave work or call a neighbor to go get him down. I guess when he lived with the hoarder he would have to go high as an escape. He has severe separation anxiety. After trying all the natural products, sprays, collars, drops, my vet put him on Prozac. Well that gave him seizures. Now I give him valium , so he is sleeping when I have to leave the house. It's a shame the breeders are either uneducated or just greedy. I live all my dogs but Cody has a special place in my heart. Because he is special!
